Iolas: The Legacy

35,00

ISBN: 978-960-6777-30-1

The reissue of the emblematic catalogue that accompanied the exhibition of the same title, held at the Macedonian Museum of Contemporary Art (now MOMus–Museum of Contemporary Art) from October 6, 2018, to March 31, 2019.

Thirty years after his death, a tribute exhibition was organized in honor of Alexander Iolas, accompanied by the corresponding catalogue titled “Alexander Iolas: The Legacy.”
The catalogue takes us through the life and work of one of the most influential figures in the global art scene—the cosmopolitan Alexandrian, collector, and art lover, Alexander Iolas.

Through theoretical texts, research and archival material—including historical photographs and letters—the catalogue highlights Iolas’s artistic and social activity and networking, his personality and engagement with contemporary art, and especially his revealing relationships with a wide array of artists, vastly different from one another.

From de Chirico to Man Ray, from Hadjikyriakos-Ghikas to Victor Brauner and Takis, from Calder to Jean Tinguely, from Magritte to Pino Pascali and Martial Raysse, from Modigliani to Warhol—Iolas’s journey through the world of art reflects not only personal preferences but also a sharp eye, constantly open to artistic expression.

This edition, much loved and now reprinted due to high demand from art enthusiasts, serves as a memento of a Greek citizen of the world and a reminder of the work of great artists associated with him.
