Catalogue of the exhibition of the same name. It includes works from the corresponding exhibition hosted at the MOMus-Museum of Modern Art-Costakis Collection. Music, literature, architecture, cinema, theatre, dance, science and art in the first three decades of the 20th century in Russia were structured and developed along a common trajectory, as part of the interdisciplinary aesthetic phenomenon later named by art historians “the Russian avant-garde”. Art absorbs and contributes to all the vibrations, becoming one with society, becoming an organic part of it. Artists who fought for a better society through art, but when art was banned in the 1930s they themselves were persecuted or isolated. One of the most important examples of the synthesis of the arts and the relationship between art and nature is the School of Organic Culture in Petrograd/Leningrad under the directorship and theoretic supervision of the artist, musician and teacher Mikhail Matiushin (1861-1934). This particular context of fermentation and creation is reflected in the exhibition and the corresponding catalogue.
