Catalog of the eponymous exhibition. The English word “rekt,” a shorthand and neologism derived from “wrecked,” is commonly used in online gaming communities to denote defeat or failure. Visual artist Vasilis Alexandrou adopts this term with its political implications, using it as a sarcastic and ironic wordplay in the title of his exhibition, “Politically rekt \/ \u03a0\u03bf\u03bb\u03b9\u03c4\u03b9\u03ba\u03ac \u03bd\u03c9\u03b8\u03c1\u03cc.”<\/p>\n

Based on the practice-based doctoral research that Alexandrou has been conducting since March 2020 at the Department of Audio & Visual Arts of the Ionian University\u2014titled “Political Art in the Digital Age” and supported by the Hellenic Foundation for Research and Innovation (ELIDEK)\u2014the exhibition reflects the artist\u2019s personal creative process during this time, much of which took place in periods of confinement and solitude.<\/p>\n
