The catalogue was published on the occasion of the exhibition-retrospective tribute to the work of Spyros Staveris: Spyros Staveris\u2019 work was presented at the 52nd Thessaloniki Film Festival in collaboration with the Thessaloniki Museum of Photography. Spyros Staveris dedicated his life and his artistic existence entirely to print. He covered almost three decades in periodical publications and left a mark that defined the aesthetic approach to photography for years to come. His first love, however, is cinema, and it\u2019s hard to get completely away from one\u2019s first love. This indelible mark is clearly reflected in the aesthetics of his art. For Staveris, photography is not a simple representation of reality, but a means to express his extroversion. Photography is the reason and the way to approach and make his own what one could describe as marginal, untouched or idealised. With the same immediacy he will capture a public figure (a celebrity, a politician, the glamorous faces of morning talk shows and lifestyle magazines) but also the human being who exists, lives and walks in the harsh everyday life that we may characterise as marginal (a junkie in Omonia Square late at night, a trans woman with her friends in the street or a songstress on a third-class skiladiko stage).
